The public site does not currently use advertising trackers, reader accounts, comments, newsletters or paid audience analytics.

Technical logs

Infrastructure providers may process technical logs needed to deliver and secure the service, such as an IP address, user agent, requested URL and timestamp. Their processing and retention are governed by the relevant provider settings and policies.

When you contact us

If you email us, your address and message are processed by the email services used to receive, secure and answer the message. We use that information to handle the enquiry and maintain any necessary editorial record.

Questions you ask the Post

Ask the Post answers questions using our own checked entries, published reporting and listings, and falls back to a fixed list of official sources when we have nothing. Answers are assembled by software and always show the sources they came from. We store the question text, which sources were used and how long the answer took, for 30 days, so we can see what readers need covered. We do not store your IP address, a user agent or any account or session identifier with the question, and we cannot link a question back to you. Please leave personal details out of questions.
