- Eligibility
- Use the RNI if you live outside the Netherlands or will stay in the Netherlands for less than 4 months. Since 1 January 2026, Utrecht accepts new RNI registrations only from people with a European passport. Applicants without one are directed to the RNI desks in Breda or Venlo. Ask Utrecht which route applies to a stay of exactly 4 months.
- Costs
- Initial RNI registration and reporting an address change are free. Separate RNI extracts have a fee.
- Appointments
- Make an appointment; walk-ins are not accepted. Complete the online registration form first and bring its QR code plus valid identity documents. After Utrecht confirms your identity, you receive a free registration extract showing your BSN immediately.
- Accessibility
- English callers can select the English option on the published municipal number.
Why it is included
RNI is the official short-stay registration route, but Utrecht's desk has a passport restriction that residents must see before booking.
